NSF Federal CyberService: Scholarship for Service

Syracuse University has received a Federal CyberService: Scholarship for Service (SFS) grant from the National Service Foundation to educate graduate students in the fields of information security and systems assurance.

This scholarship program provides a multidisciplinary focus on the technology, policy and management aspects of computer security and systems assurance. Scholarship recipients will be drawn from affiliated programs in the College of Engineering and Computer Science, the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, and the School of Information Studies.

Our most recent grant will fund three cohorts of 5-6 students for up to two years each, starting in Fall 2007.

Overview of Program

Scholarship For Service (SFS) is a unique program designed to increase and strengthen the cadre of federal information assurance professionals that protect the government's critical information infrastructure. This program is available only to graduate-level students at SU and provides scholarships that fully fund the typical costs that students pay for books, tuition, room, and board while attending an approved institution of higher learning (SU). Additionally, participants receive yearly stipends of up to $12,000 in return for working for the Federal Government for a period of time after graduation, usually 2 years of service for students who receive two years of funding.

Benefits

Each scholarship recipient will receive the following benefits:

  • An academic-year stipend of $12,000
  • Additional subsistence funding to cover room and board and other educational expenses
  • Twelve credit hours of tuition per semester

Scholarship recipients will also be matched with a faculty mentor, who can provide academic support and professional advice.

Eligibility Requirements

All scholarship recipients must:

Note: ITPM scholarship recipients will need to select courses that are targeted towards the area of systems assurance. More information about this requirement will be appearing soon.

  • Be prepared to work for federal agency upon graduation
